Matchbox x RealTruck Jeep Could Be Yours at the Barret-Jackson Scottsdale Auction

I don’t typically partake in auctions. Several of my friends have gone down that route, though. I guess you need a certain kind of budget to afford it. Everything’s easier on the 1:64th-scale though. I’m currently bidding on several cool Hot Wheels and Matchbox products. A fellow collector I’ve interviewed a while ago is letting go of thousands of tiny cars, and the best ones are being sold auction-style. It’s a slow bidding process for the first few days, and it only gets intense in the last 30 minutes. That could be a part of people’s strategy to keep the price down and score a certain model before others do. It’s a different story with a live auction, though, at least from the videos I’ve seen. You either make a move or get left behind. I occasionally enjoy seeing what cars are available at Barret-Jackson auctions, seeing how the market has evolved over the years. Seeing as window-shopping is free, most of the vehicles I’ve looked for are worth at least several million dollars. You can find more affordable options at these events, though. And sometimes, the money you spend will help support a good cause. I wrote about a 1:1 Matchbox-themed Jeep Gladiator that RealTruck built a few years ago. It looked just like the Mattel Creations model that was available for $25 on the diecast manufacturer’s website. At the 2024 auction in Scottsdale, the real RealTruck Jeep sold for a whopping $250,000. One hundred percent of the hammer price plus an additional $75,000 in donations went to a non-profit organization called Building Homes for Heroes. Since that recipe was successful, why change it, right? Doetsch Off-Road built a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Custom SUV (gosh that’s a long name) for the 2025 SEMA Show. Of course, it has a Matchbox counterpart that looks just like it, and it once again features a selection of RealTruck accessories. One of my buddies who owns a Jeep like this would certainly love that Superlift 4-inch lift kit for his Wrangler, especially since he mostly drives it in the wilderness. Anyway, I don’t remember seeing this Matchbox collectible in stores anywhere, but I still have a Tuscadero Pink ’18 Jeep JL 4dr that I unboxed last year and I’m quite happy with. I included some photos of the previous models for reference. I imagine anyone who’s a hardcore Matchbox enthusiast and can afford to spare some serious cash could participate at the Barret-Jackson auction in Scottsdale on January 22nd, 2026. Estimates have it that the Jeep will go under the hammer at 7:30 PM MST, with 100% of the money going to the Gas Monkey Foundation. Is it safe to assume that it will sell for over $250,000 this time? Top 10 Thursday Sales at the Barrett-Jackson 2026 Scottsdale Auction

Winter can be a lovely time of year, especially here in Scottsdale, Arizona, but judging by Thursday’s top 10 sales at the Barrett-Jackson 2026 Scottsdale Auction, many people are looking forward to spring. That would explain why so many of the 10 spots on the list, which hammered for a total of more than $1.76 million, went to convertibles. And as the three charity car sales show, it’s always a good time to contribute to charitable causes. A 454-powered Chevrolet Camaro coupe and a Nomad wagon took the two spots at the top of the list, but the next five vehicles – whether you call them a convertible or a Volante – after those were made for open-air drives. Of course, sports cars and SUVs are perennially popular, so a 993 Porsche 911, first-generation Ford Bronco, and classic Jeep Grand Wagoneer rounded out the top 10. Just below those vehicles, you’ll notice three additional entries. As usual, Barrett-Jackson also auctioned vehicles to benefit worthy causes. A modified 2018 Jeep Wrangler built by Doetsch Off-Road in collaboration with Mattel and Matchbox brought in $110,000 for the Gas Monkey Foundation, which is “dedicated to advancing the fight against Alzheimer’s and supporting first responders and veterans.” A customized 1965 Ford Mustang convertible sold for the same price, all of which went to notMYkid, an organization that helps youth, families, and schools successfully handle addiction and mental health. Mattel and RealTruck’s One-of-a-Kind “Matchbox” Jeep Wrangler Sells for $110,000 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale

The full-size Matchbox Jeep Wrangler built by RealTruck in partnership with Mattel has officially found a new home. Crossing the block at the Barrett-Jackson 2026 Scottsdale Auction, the one-of-a-kind Wrangler sold for $110,000, with 100 percent of the hammer price donated to Richard Rawlings’ Gas Monkey Foundation. Originally unveiled during the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the custom Jeep instantly stood out as a rolling, real-world interpretation of the iconic Matchbox toy aesthetic. From Matchbox Concept To Full-Scale Off-Road Build The build began as a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JLU, transformed by Doetsch Off-Road in Chandler, Arizona, into a fully functional adventure rig that blended nostalgia with serious off-road capability. While the exterior graphics and color scheme were unmistakably Matchbox-inspired, the foundation of the Jeep was rooted in proven aftermarket hardware. A RealTruck Superlift 4-inch suspension lift provides the Wrangler with added ground clearance and trail-ready stance, while armor and protection upgrades include a Rugged Ridge HD Stubby Front Bumper and XOR Rear Bumper, giving the Jeep both improved approach angles and rugged durability. An AmFib snorkel system adds water-fording capability and a bold visual element, reinforcing the Wrangler’s expedition-ready intent. Up top, a roof rack expands the Jeep’s cargo-hauling potential, turning the build into a true overland-capable platform rather than a static show vehicle. Inside, Husky Liners WeatherBeater Floor Liners were installed to handle mud, water, and debris from real-world trail use — a reminder that this Jeep was built to be driven, not just admired. The exterior was finished with a custom Matchbox and Husky Liners livery, bringing the miniature toy look to life at full scale while still maintaining a clean, cohesive appearance that worked equally well under the bright lights of SEMA and the auction stage at Barrett-Jackson. A SEMA Standout With A Purpose According to RealTruck Inc. Vice President of Marketing Lee Riser, the build was always meant to tell a story beyond its visual impact. “Year after year, our outfitted vehicles take the auction block by storm, each one telling its own story and captivating bidders,” said Riser. “We’re excited to have brought to life another Matchbox build with Mattel while also supporting a worthy cause as a result of celebrating the partnership.” That cause is the Gas Monkey Foundation, founded in 2014 by Richard Rawlings to provide critical support for veterans, first responders, and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. With the entire $110,000 sale benefiting the foundation, the Matchbox Jeep’s legacy now extends well beyond the off-road and collector communities. Giving Back Through The Automotive Community Rawlings emphasized the importance of partnerships like this in helping the foundation expand its reach and impact. “We’re thankful to our friends at RealTruck for supporting Gas Monkey Foundation with increased funding and awareness,” said Rawlings. “This donation will make a real impact on causes near and dear to my heart, supporting those struggling with Alzheimer’s as well as first responders and veterans.” From Auction Block To Toy Aisle For fans who admired the build but didn’t have six figures to spend, the Matchbox Jeep Wrangler will live on in miniature form. A 1:64-scale replica of the full-size build is scheduled to hit mass retailers worldwide beginning in April, allowing collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of the project’s legacy. The RealTruck and Mattel collaboration proves that when creativity, craftsmanship, and purpose come together, the result can resonate far beyond the show floor — and in this case, deliver meaningful support to those who need it most.
